Lots of distributions, of course using Linux is nightmare for the windows users and selecting the right distribution is a much greater nightmare, thousands of distros to choose from. And the best way is to look for the distribution that suits you the most. Here are some of the top linux distros, we have not included distributions like Redhat as they are paid versions of linux.
1.Ubuntu

Ubuntuis a highly popular distro as has a default GNOME front end, installs quickly and easily and comes with reliable partitioning software. It’s also available as Kubuntu if you prefer working in KDE. Available as a single-CD installation, free Ubuntu CD available at shipit.ubuntu.com
2.Fedora Core

Fedora Core is the free version that is funded by Red Hat Linux and its free and supported versions by Red Hat. Now it’s a free download and a continuingly popular one, a kind of ongoing research lab for Red Hat’s paid products.
3.Mandriva

Mandriva , Available as a single-CD installation called Mandriva One, Mandriva can also be obtained as a commercial release if you want full tech support.Mandrive has a Flash version, a 4GB USB key that runs the OS through a USB port.
4.Freespire

Freespire is the free version of the well-known Linspire, easy to install and work with, Freespire and Linspire are designed specifically for Linux newcomers. For $49.95, you might appreciate the support you get with Linspire.
5.OpenSUSE

This Open SUSEis the free version of SUSE, Novell’s enterprise Linux version. It has a well-written installation routine and a strong collection of included software.

Debian should be number 1.
Specially since two out of your five chosen ones (Ubuntu and Freespire) are actually built on top and are very dependent on it!

Freespire in no way, shape, or form is a top linux distribution. Its community is very small, and even worse, the distro isn’t top notch. It hasn’t been updated in nearly a year, and it is buggy and feature-lacking.
If you are talking over-all top Linux Distributions, Red Hat is definitely in the top 5. It is the most used distribution on servers and by enterprises.
If you are targeting consumer-oriented distro’s, PCLinuxOS is far more relevant that freespire.
Um, Linspire is no more.
Frankly, any of the top ten distros at Distrowatch are as easy to use as the ones above.
I went with Debian because it isn’t tied to a company that can go out of business at any time when the owner’s decide they aren’t getting enough return on investment (and only Novell and Redhat are making money).
my top5 is :
1) Debian
2) Mandriva
3) Slackware
4) NuTyX
5) Puppy !

What was your criteria for the “picks”.
Debian should’ve been #1 (True FOSS)
Freespire is not been worked on for a while, they’re waiting for stable “Lenny”. Linspire is dead, bought and discontinued by Xandros (another Debian based commercial distro).
PCLinuxOS & Mepis are better choices than Freespire.
