How to Upload Photos To Picasa by Email

First time here? I hope you'll consider subscribing via RSS or email (it's free). Thanks for visiting!

We have lots of services via email like file conversion, blogging and its now the Picasa too on the queue. For all those who hesitate to use Picasa just because they don’t want their PC to have the Picasa in it, you can just upload all your photos as email to Picasa Web. And this is done by sending your photo attached mail to secret address.

Lets see how this can be done.

Step1: Go the Picasa Web and click on settings

Step2: Check “Allow me to upload photos by email” in the settings

Step3: Enter a secret word, then the email address would be of the format username.secretkey@picasaweb.com, where the secret key is the secret word you have entered.

Step4: Save the Settings and its all done!

By default, Picasa Web uploads your photos to the built-in Drop Box albums, but it’s a good idea to choose your destination by entering the name of an existing album in the subject of your email.

And the most important part of the game is never share your email address or the secret key. I have attached a screenshot from the GoogleOS blog on this issue.

You can attach up to 20MB of photos in JPG, GIF and PNG formats, which is a pretty reasonable limitation. Since Picasa Web’s mobile site still doesn’t support uploading photos, the new option should be really useful when you want to share photos from a phone with email or MMS capabilities.

    one problem… it doesn’t work.

I’ve tried to upload pictures this way several times. Followed the exact steps mentioned in Picasa help after failing the first time but with no result whatsoever. Emails are sent without a problem, but not once did a picture appear in my drop box or the specified album.
