Safari doesnt Cache Stuff

September 23, 2008

The web browser that is lovedby everybody including people working on Windows or Unix platforms is having a small flaw, that I would like to detail out to you folks….

If your computer has less than 1 GB of Ram then Safari fails to cache items larger than 104,857 Bytes.

If your company has more than 1 GB of ram then Safari fails to cache items larger than 209,715 Bytes.

Jpegs, atleast, are temporarily cached in RAM. But upon browser restart, you see that the image dint make it to the disk cache.

Other items like videos and SWF’s dont even make it to the RAM, let alone DISK cache. Whew…

How to change Boot Sector location in case of corrupt bootsectors

September 23, 2008

Sometimes it can be seen on older laptops and virus prone computer that one fine morning we are not able to boot our computer. The computer shows a ridiculing behaviour wherein it switches on and then after showing the Windows loading screen( the screen in which the loading tab appears with the Windows logo), it suddenly restarts and we have no option but to wait for the next restart. This means that the boot sector has undergone a corruption or else the Copy of Windows installed in the system has simply not been registered correctly in the boot sector. The former case will be diagnosed here but the latter case will be shown in my later posts…

Step 1: Put the Windows installation CD and boot from CD

Step 2: Go to repair mode in Windows installation

Step 3: type help

Step 4: You will find the correct format for typing “fixboot” in help

Step 5: Try to relocate the bootsector.

Step 6: Reboot now and check if your system starts

Step 7: If it still doesnt work, you can read my later posts as this is the case of non-registration of Windows copy

Based on the technology previously known as Dr. Watson, it provides post-error debug information to the developer of an application that crashes or stops responding on a user’s desktop. While Dr.Watson left the memory dump on the user’s local machine for debugging, Windows Error Reporting offers to send the memory dump to Microsoft using the Internet.
